Why I Started Looking for a Stroller Wagon

Reviewing strollers isn’t my typical gig, but after becoming a mom of two (and now almost 3!), I realized there was one product that completely changed how I get out of the house with my kids. Whether you’re a brand-new mama with one baby, preparing for your second, or a family who spends a lot of time outside, this stroller wagon deserves a full review.

Getting out the door with two young kids is an Olympic sport. Sometimes it feels easier to just stay home… but I’ve learned that for my sanity, I need fresh air and movement. Sitting inside all day doesn’t work for me or for my toddler. Still, even though I want to get out, the logistics are hard. Shoes, snacks, bottles, tantrums, and carrying half your house out the door—it can feel like too much.

That’s why I started asking other moms with two kids what made it easier. Should I invest in a double stroller, or was a stroller wagon better? The answers I got were almost unanimous. Every mom I asked told me, “Get the wagon.”

So after doing some research, I landed on the Baby Trend Expedition 2-in-1 Stroller Wagon PLUS. And let me tell you—this thing has been worth every penny.

Why the Baby Trend Expedition Wagon Won Me Over

Price That Makes Sense

I was shocked when I started looking into double strollers. Some of the name-brand options were listed at $1,800 or more. I’m sure there are even pricier ones, but honestly, I stopped looking after that. As a small business owner preparing for maternity leave, spending that kind of money wasn’t realistic for our family.

When I found the Baby Trend Expedition Wagon for around $240 on Amazon (currently $220!), it felt like such a relief. Finally… something that fit our budget without sacrificing quality.

Adaptability with Car Seats

Another reason I chose this model was car seat compatibility. The popular Evenflo Pivot Xplore Wagon is amazing, but it only works with Evenflo car seats. We already owned a different brand and weren’t about to buy a whole new one just to make it work.

The Baby Trend Expedition Wagon comes with an adapter that fits most car seats. This was huge for us. It meant our newborn could ride safely in her car seat, and I didn’t have to start from scratch buying new gear.

Functionality That Fits Real Life

This is where the Baby Trend Wagon really shines. It can be pushed like a stroller or pulled like a wagon, depending on the terrain. We’ve taken it on sand, gravel, and even over our rocky driveway, and so far I haven’t needed to switch to pulling - it pushes smoothly even with both kids inside.

But my favorite part? How much it holds. We took it to Martha’s Vineyard when my second was just one week old, and I loaded it with her car seat, the car seat base, our toddler, and even small bags in the front storage. It all fit!

And when it’s time to pack up, the wagon folds quickly and fits into a standard trunk. I can do it one-handed while holding my baby or toddler. That alone makes it priceless in my book.

We also use it almost daily to walk to the beach. We pile in towels, sand toys, and snacks in the front, while our toddler sits happily in the back. It’s strong, roomy, and easy to maneuver even when loaded.

Bonus? If you’re wanting to fit in some tummy time while at the beach or during a walk - if no other littles are wanting to be in the wagon at the same time - you can easily do so in this wagon with a double-sided mirror or contrast image propped up in front of your baby!

Maneuverability

For something that carries so much, this wagon is surprisingly light. I can steer it one-handed, even while turning corners. With our single stroller, I always felt like I was fighting it to turn or get over uneven ground. This wagon glides.

We’ve used it on sidewalks, driveways, sand, and trails, and it handles all of them without me breaking a sweat. For a mom juggling two kids - and sometimes a dog at the same time - that’s a lifesaver.

Toddler Approval

And maybe the most important piece of all: my toddler adores it. She hops in happily for walks, and our outings have become less of a power struggle. Some days she wants to walk - which, of course, I have to encourage as a pediatric PT - and other times, she wants to ride. Having the wagon makes both options possible without stress.

We’ve had fewer meltdowns, fewer “I’m too tired to walk” moments, and fewer “runaway toddler chasing bunnies into neighbors’ yards” incidents (yes, that’s happened more than once).

The One Downside

If you’re having twins, this wagon won’t fit two infant car seats at once. It’s best for one baby and one toddler, or two to three toddlers. That’s the only limitation I’ve found.

Update After 2+ Years of Use (and Preparing for Baby #3)

We’ve now had this stroller wagon for over two years, and I’m preparing to add baby number three to the mix. I can confidently say: this wagon still has so much life and ease left in it. I honestly wouldn’t recommend anything else.

These days, my oldest usually walks, so I’m not worried about it being an issue when the new baby arrives. If both of my older kids want to ride, I’ll simply use my favorite newborn carrier and wear the baby.

We’ve even fit three toddlers in the wagon at once without a problem, so I know it will continue to serve us well as our youngest grows into toddlerhood.

The only piece of advice I’d give after using it this long? Don’t leave it outside day in and day out the way we did! A little rust makes folding it up less smooth than it used to be. Store it inside if you can, and it will last even longer.

Why I Recommend It

If I could give this wagon more than five stars, I would. It’s affordable, practical, easy to use, and toddler-approved. Honestly, I’d even recommend it to families with just one baby, because it grows with you and works in so many situations.
